Theresienwiese
Theresienwiese

Located in the open space (roughly 420,000 square meters) that used to be outside of Munich city walls.  This location was dedicated to celebrate the marriage of Prince Ludwig I (later he would become King Ludwig I) and his wife Therese Von Sachsen-HIldburghausen in 1810.  The location is named after Therese Von Sachsen-HIldburghausen.

When the initial celebrations occurred in 1810, it was a mix of summer fair, horse racing and other activities that celebrated the union.  Each year after that, celebrations happened in the same area.

Key events that happened in the location are:  Oktoberfest, Spring Festival, Flea Market, Oldtimer Festival, Winter Tollwood, Bavarian Central Agricultural Festival (every 4 years).

Oktoberfest

Oktoberfest begins in Mid-September and will last about two weeks.  This year, Oktoberfest will happen between September 17, 2022 to October 3, 2022.

Oktoberfest is a major celebratory event and hotels get booked a year in advance. Be sure to book your hotel and airline tickets as soon as possible to ensure lodging during your time at the festivities.

While children are allowed to attend the festival, we suggest against this activity.  Oktoberfest s a very crowded event, with lots of people drinking alcohol.  You will be kept busy keeping an eye on the kids and ensuring they don’t get lost in the crowd.

Tickets:

There is no entrance fee to get into Munich’s Oktoberfest

If attending Oktoberfest for the first time, it might be a good idea to join a small group tour. You may choose to join a small group tour with a reserved table and tent here:
